Kansas City Sports Commission Submits Bids for Opportunity to Host NCAA Championships

KANSAS CITY, MO (February 9, 2024) – The Kansas City Sports Commission, in collaboration with multiple partners, submitted bids to host a variety of NCAA championships taking place from 2026 through 2028.

“Kansas City has a proven track record of hosting some of the most prestigious NCAA events over the past several decades,” says Kathy Nelson, President and CEO of the Kansas City Sports Commission. “I want to thank Nichole Robinson, our Director of National Events, and the entire Sports Commission staff for leading this monumental undertaking and collaborating with dozens of people to create these world-class bids.”

The Kansas City Sports Commission submitted 23 total bids to host events across a variety of sports including DI Men’s Basketball at T-Mobile Center, DI Men’s Soccer, DI Women’s Soccer – both of which would be played at CPKC Stadium – and the DII Fall Festival, which includes men’s and women’s cross country, women’s field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball across multiple venues. The bid deadline was February 7 and championships are scheduled to be awarded and announced on October 2.

Mayor Lucas, in a letter of support submitted with the bids, states, “Kansas City has been honored to welcome NCAA teams and fans in the past; and the unwavering support from the Kansas City community and organizations such as the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation led to exciting, successful events. Sports are important to the identity of any city, and Kansas City is certainly no exception. It’s truly a sports town that prides itself on the quantity and quality of its sports venues.”

This March, the Kansas City Sports Commission is preparing to host the NCAA DI Wrestling Championships, one of the largest and most-attended NCAA championships. And in 2025, NCAA DI Women’s Volleyball returns to Kansas City at T-Mobile Center.
