Taylor Obersteadt Selected as New Director of WIN for KC

KANSAS CITY, MO (February 7, 2024) – Today, on National Women and Girls in Sports Day, WIN for KC is excited to announce Taylor Obersteadt, formerly of Special Olympics Kansas, will lead the organization during a pivotal time in the evolution of women’s sports.

“Taylor brings extensive experience in event programming, fundraising and sponsorship generation, as well as advocacy for increased opportunity and equity in sports,” says Kathy Nelson, President and CEO of the Kansas City Sports Commission and WIN for KC. “As we continue navigating a cultural shift in women’s professional sports and youth sports for girls, I know Taylor will lead WIN for KC with an emphasis on strong community partnerships, forward-thinking strategy and mission-driven initiatives.”

Taylor spent most of her professional career working for Special Olympics, first with Special Olympics Florida- Miami Dade and most recently with Special Olympics Kansas. While with Special Olympics Kansas, Taylor served as the Director of Inclusion overseeing the Unified Champion Schools strategy that promotes meaningful social inclusion by bringing together students with and without disabilities to create accepting school environments. Taylor also oversaw the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy. One of her most proud accomplishments with Special Olympics Kansas is partnering with the Kansas State High School Activities Association to bring its first inclusive interscholastic sport, Unified Bowling.

“As a former student athlete, I know first-hand the skillset, community and values instilled through access and participation in sports,” says Obersteadt. “While women’s sports continue to make significant strides in opportunity and equity, WIN for KC’s mission is more relevant than ever before as we work to diversify programming and meet the changing needs of women and girls within our community.”

In her role as WIN for KC Director, Taylor will lead strategic planning, oversee day-to-day operations, and facilitate community partnerships in collaboration with the WIN Advisory Board. At last week’s Women’s Sports Awards, WIN for KC announced the following new programs and collaborations for 2024: a pickleball clinic series with Chicken N Pickle; Little Winners, a half-day camp for the youngest Camp WIN participants; and AdventHealth Women’s Day & Pro-Am of which WIN for KC is a beneficiary.
