Become a Hospital Hill Run Volunteer!

Each year you join our Race Crew as a volunteer, you help to make Kansas City’s oldest running event a huge success. It’s because of dedicated volunteers like you that we are able to create the best race weekend experience for our athletes and fans.

GRANT GROUPS

Are you a nonprofit organization looking for fundraising opportunities and able to commit a minimum of 10 volunteers to assist during the Hospital Hill Run? Apply today to become a Hospital Hill Run Grant Group!

Qualifying volunteer groups of 10 or more will receive $15 for every volunteer. For example, if your group has 15 members register and volunteer, a donation of $225 will be made to your group.

VOLUNTEER ROLES

Aid Stations: Great spots for groups. Show off your group pride with a theme, signs, music or costumes. Make it yours and make it fun! Duties include:

  • Setting up the station

  • Filling and stacking cups with water and Powerade

  • Handing beverages to athletes

  • Cleaning up the area

Finish Line Support: This is another great spot for groups, individuals, and families to greet participants as they cross the finish line with food, water, and medals.

Start Line Support: Help runners start the race right by assisting them to the starting area.

Gear Check: Greet runners and assist with overseeing gear check on race day.

Floater: Help with whatever shifts need extra attention on race day. Flexibility and patience are needed as you will receive your assignment upon arrival Saturday morning.

Packet Pickup: On the Friday before the race, you will welcome athletes and look up their registration and hand out bib numbers and t-shirts at packet pickup

Registration Guidelines

  • All volunteers must register individually and sign a waiver, even if volunteering as part of a group.

  • A parent or guardian may register someone under the age of 18. Volunteers under 16 require supervision during their shift, 1 adult per 5 children.

  • You may register for multiple shifts as long as the shifts do not overlap.

  • Hospital Hill Run takes place RAIN or SHINE. The athletes and fans count on the volunteers to show up on time and complete their commitments in order to have a safe and good experience.

  • After completing online registration, volunteers will receive an automatic confirmation and detailed information closer to race day. We will text emergency notifications during race weekend if necessary.

Race Ambassadors

Each year, the Hospital Hill Run selects race ambassadors to drive race registrations by representing the event on social media, at group runs, expos and other activations.

Program details:

  • Perks

    • Each ambassador receives a 10% registration discount code that can be utilized by anyone. Every time the code is used it helps the ambassador earn rewards!

    • Official Hospital Hill Run ambassador t-shirt to wear at group runs and running events around the city

    • 1 complimentary entry for being selected as an ambassador

    • 2nd complimentary entry for 10 registrations

    • VIP tent access for 20 registrations

    • VIP tent access for a +1 for 30 registrations

    • Prize Pack for ambassador with the most race registrations

  • Duties

    • Use your strong social media presence in combination with your presence within the Kansas City and national running community to drive race registrations.

    • Ambassadors to work the Course Info Line at a packet pickup shift for Hospital Hill Run to answer participants’ course related questions.

    • Ambassadors to work a promo table shift at packet pickup at the 2025 Garmin Kansas City Marathon Health & Fitness Expo to promote the 2026 Hospital Hill Run.
