Addison Bjorn Honored as Children’s Mercy Kansas City Rising Star Award Winner for the 2025 Women’s Sports Awards

KANSAS CITY, MO (December 18, 2024) – Addison Bjorn, one of the nation’s premier high school basketball players, will receive the Children’s Mercy Kansas City Rising Star Award at the 2025 Women’s Sports Awards presented by Burns & McDonnell. The annual awards program is WIN for KC’s biggest fundraiser and the largest celebration National Girls and Women in Sports Day in the country.

Parkville’s Addison Bjorn is a five-star basketball player, ranked among the top 10 high school prospects in the country in the class of 2026. The 6-foot-2 guard spent the summer after her freshman year winning a title for USA Basketball’s Under 16 National Team in the FIBA Americas Tournament in Mexico. This past summer, Bjorn once again represented team USA on its Under 17 team which won a Women’s World Cup championship. The junior at Park Hill South is known for her versatility in scoring, skilled passing and ability to guard any position defensively and is highly sought after by nearly every major collegiate basketball program. She currently plays for Caitlin Clark’s former AAU team, All Iowa Attack.

“She is the kind of player every coach wants on their roster,” says Park Hill South basketball coach Joshua Dorr. “Her work ethic is unmatched, and in addition to scoring she does all the little things like pass, rebound and get steals that helps a team win games.”

The 2025 WIN for KC Women’s Sports Awards, which takes place in T-Mobile Center for the first time, kicks off by honoring local 2024 female high school state champions with their celebratory march across the stage. Then, throughout the luncheon, event attendees learn about the six honorees in the following categories: Children’s Mercy Kansas City Rising Star Award, Lockton Courage Award, Kissick Construction Game Changer Award, UMBFC Charitable Foundation Lifetime Sportswoman Award, Hallmark Cards Leadership Award and Forvis Mazars BE BOLD Award. Finally, the featured guest delivers remarks reflecting on her challenges and triumphs in the world of sports.

“Addison is one of the future leaders for this generation of players growing up during the increased interest and spotlight on women’s basketball,” says Taylor Obersteadt, Director of WIN for KC. “It has been exciting to watch her rise to national prominence on two USA basketball national teams and become one of the top change makers in the class of 2026.”
