GENERAL RACE INFORMATION

What day is the race?
The race always falls on the Saturday morning of the Big 12 Championship.
2020 – Saturday, March 14 
2021 – Saturday, March 13
2022 – Saturday, March 12
2023 – Saturday, March 11

What time do the races start? 
1 mile – 8 a.m. 
5K and 12K – 8:30 a.m. 

What distances are available?
12K: 7.4 miles
5K: 3.1 miles
1 Mile 

Are there training programs available?

DAY OF RACE INFORMATION

Where can I park?

Complimentary parking will be offered to all participants of the Big 12 Run at two parking garages along 11th Street.  The first garage entrance is located at 1120 Oak Street.  NOTE: This garage is located on the race route. Participants may not be able to leave until the race is completed.

The second garage entrance is located at 11th Street at the corner of Cherry.  Both of these garages will be free of charge for all participants.  The Kansas City Sports Commission is not responsible for fees charged at other parking locations.  

KC STREETCAR OPTION (map):  Avoid traffic on race day and ride the KC Streetcar to the start/finish line.  Free surface lots are located at 7th and Main (limited space available).  The streetcar begins at 7 a.m. Take the streetcar to the Metro Center stop (12th & Main) and walk 2 blocks east on 12th Street to the start line. 

Will I be able to find pictures of the race and finish line?

Can I run with a stroller, pets, headphones, etc? 
Kansas City’s Big 12 Run will allow families with strollers to participate in the 5K and 1 mile races.  Due to safety reasons, strollers are NOT permitted on the 12K course. NOTE: No headsets, motorized vehicles, roller blades, bikes or dogs will be allowed on the course. Baby strollers and baby joggers will be allowed in the 5K and 1 mile only. Protection will be provided at all intersections by the Kansas City, MO police department and/or volunteers. 

What roads will be closed the morning of?
Road closures begin at 8 a.m. and could last up to 3 hours in these areas: Power & Light District, Government District, 18th & Vine Crown Center, The Crossroads District 

Where can I find the complimentary beer after the race? 
Central States Beverage Company will be offering each participant (21 years of age and older) a complimentary beer at KC Live! in the Kansas City Power & Light District.  Present the beer ticket from your bib at the KC Live! Block (13th and Grand), along with a valid form of I.D., to receive a complimentary Miller Lite or Coors Light.  Offer must be redeemed on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Grab a post-run bite at one of the eight KC Live! Venues participating in the Party Brunch from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

RESULTS & AWARDS

Where can I find the race results? 
All results will be finalized the Wednesday after the race to ensure accurate information and placement for all participants. Overall event winners in each race are excluded from age group awards.   

Are there prizes for each event? 
12K – Overall Male and Female:  $1,000 in Phillips 66 gas, two tickets to the Championship game; Second Place Male and Female:  $500 in Phillips 66 gas  
5K – Overall Male and Female:  $750 in Phillips 66 gas, two tickets to the Championship game  
1 Mile – Top 3 Male and Female Finishers: $300 (1st place), $150 (2nd place), $50 (3rd place)
Male and Female Age Group Award Categories: 17 & under, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over.
